Teens charged with vehicle theft

Two Craig teenagers who were caught allegedly trying to steal a fourth car in joy-riding cross country trip are being charged locally with aggravated motor vehicle theft, said Deputy District Attorney Amy Fitch of the 14th Judicial District.

The boys, ages 14 and 15, will be charged for stealing a car that was parked in front of a Shadow Mountain home.

The Craig Daily Press does not print the names of juveniles charged with crimes.

The vehicle stolen from the Craig home was the first the boys stole in an attempt to make a trip to Washington state, reportedly to visit a brother, police said. The boys allegedly ditched three cars along the way after the vehicles broke down or got stuck, Moffat County Sheriff's Sgt. Ricky Holford said.

The boys were caught in Baker County, Oregon, on Nov. 3, Holford said.

At least one of the teens is a suspect in a break-in at Loadout Liquors in October, Holford said. The road trip may have been prompted by the youth wanting to flee, he said.
