Rosie Potter leads Bible study for members of Yampa Valley Baptist Church, but only women are invited.
"It's like a sisterhood," she said. "We just share each others' burdens and pray for each other, and the ladies do enjoy it a lot."
The women in Ladies' Bible Study meet every other Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Potter's home to read passages from the Bible, discuss themes and pray for one another and other members of the community.
"I think it's important to apply the Bible in our living," Potter said. "It becomes more personal."
Potter said the group has been meeting for two years, and does not meet in the summer months because of busy schedules.
She stresses the discussion part of the meetings because the women can talk about how the Bible's themes apply to their lives.
"Everybody is encouraged to participate and I think that makes you think through things more than if you were just listening," she said.
The men of the congregation get together for a men's snow retreat, and many members of the church go hunting together as well.
Each week, all parish members have a number of gatherings that take them through another section of the Bible. Potter's husband, Dale, is the pastor, and he often compares chapters of the Old and New testaments.
"I think the emphasis of the whole church is that we try to teach the word of God, so we try to teach the whole Bible," she said. "That's the way it's written and that's the way God wants us to learn it."
Sunday school for all ages is at 9:45 a.m. Sundays, with church services, including a Bible survey, at 11 a.m. At 6 p.m. on Sundays, parish members can return for a continuation of the survey and a quiz for the children on one chapter they read.
Church members are asked to keep up with the readings the pastor will cover that week so they may better understand the preaching.
"We expect people to read their Bibles at home to check up on us and see if we're doing it right," she said.
The church also holds a prayer meeting, King's Kids and a youth Bible study Wednesday evenings in addition to Ladies' Bible Study.
The church has a Care program, designed to help ease the pain of church members experiencing hard times.
The parish supports nine missionaries and is preparing to send them Christmas gifts.
Those interested in the Ladies' Bible Study may join them this Tuesday at 593 Legion St., or call Potter at 824-5424.
