Tylar Talkington

Tylar Talkington

The United State Achievement Academy announced that Tylar Talkington of Sedona, Ariz., granddaughter of Claudean Talkington and the late Charlie Talkington of Craig, has been named a United States National Award Winner in Mathematics.

This award is a prestigious honor that recognizes fewer than 10 percent of all American high school students.

Talkington, who attends Sedona Red Rock High School, was nominated for the award by Karen Kincade, a math teacher at the school.

Talkington will appear in the United State Achievement Academy Official Yearbook, which is published nationally.

The academy selects winners upon the exclusive recommendation of teachers, coaches, counselors and other qualified sponsors and upon the standards set forth by the academy. The criteria for selection are a student's academic performance, interest and aptitude, leadership qualities, responsibility, enthusiasm, motivation to learn and improve, citizenship, attitude and cooperative spirit, dependability and recommendation from a teacher or director.

Talkington is the daughter of Jerry and Dottie Talkington of Sedona. Her grandparents are Judy Wheeler of Congress, Ariz., Frank and Marilyn Wheeler of Show Low, Ariz., and Claudean Talkington of Craig.
