Members of a Craig family put their heads together to submit the winning entry for the contest to rename the former Valley View Manor.
The nursing home will be called "Sandrock Ridge Lodge."
The committee that picked the name narrowed the entries down to four, and the "Sandrock Ridge" entry jumped off the page, said Mitch Fieldman, the manager and operator who works for Homestead Inc.
Homestead Inc. is the company that will oversee the operation of the home.
The winning entry was submitted by Annie and Paul Nelson, and their children, Morgan, 3, Alicia 13, Paul Jr., 14, and Angela, 16.
"We all kind of sat down at the dining room table and had a family brainstorm," said Annie Nelson.
The whole family collaborated on the name, but Paul Nelson was the driving force, Annie Nelson said.
"He's actually the mastermind behind it all," Annie Nelson said.
Paul was called in to work and couldn't attend Monday's meeting when Fieldman and others involved with the nursing home awarded the family a plaque and a Carelli's gift certificate.
Annie Nelson said she has fond memories of volunteering in the home when she was in grade school.
Her children have visited the home on school outings, too.
"I think it's important for young people to interact with the elderly," Annie Nelson said.
"It's important to learn respect and know the stories of the past."
Pam Young, Tracey Behrman and Lop Behrman also congratulated the family.
Lop Behrman owns the building and is renovating it.
Young has been the project manager, working with Behrman to reopen the home in Craig.
Tracey Behrman also has been involved in the renovation.
She plans to work closely with Fieldman and eventually be the home's administrator.
Fieldman said the name shouldn't be considered finalized until state officials sign off on it.
Officials could ask for the name to be modified, he said.
