What prompted you to open your business in Craig? When my husband, Jack and I moved to Craig in 1997, we decided the time and conditions were right for trying to open a "family business" to keep me occupied.
How did you get into your line of business? I have a retailing background and Jack and I both liked rocks. We used some savings, bought some merchandise, and rented a space to set up shop.
Describe your philosophy of being a good businessperson: Be friendly and be fair.
How do you define the role of your business in the community? My business is there to provide shopping choices to the folks in the Yampa Valley area. My business also provides a way for me to get involved in community activities.
What is the best part of your job? Helping a customer find the right gift or other item, and having customers come back again and again.
What is the most challenging part of your job? Keeping up with customer demands and style trends ... and housekeeping.
What advice would you give a young person considering opening his or her own business? Have enthusiasm, a real good pair of shoes, patience, and enough money to support yourself for at least two years. Keep smiling!
