The National Barrel Horse Association, NBHA, is holding a one-day event Saturday at the Moffat County Fairgrounds in Craig.
Registration will open at 10 a.m. Exhibition will start at 11 a.m. and the races begin at noon.
Races will include a senior division for participants 50 years and older and a youth division for participants 18 years and younger. If there are interested participants, races may also include a peewee division.
You don't have to be a member of the NBHA to register and run the race but, it is certainly not too late to join the district, said Kay Brooks, Director of District 10. Member participants will pay $30 registration fees. Non-member fees will be $35. Youth and Senior Division registration fees are $20 for members and $25 for non-members. No points will be awarded to non-members. Points are accrued throughout the season for prizes that are awarded at the finals to be held in October in Rifle.
There are no spectator costs. There will be a jackpot poles race held after the NBHA race is over. Registration for the jackpot is $15.The jackpot awarded to the winners will be a 70 percent payback. This race is held in a three-divisional format with full second splits For more information call 276-2022.
Signup continues for bereavement camp
Signup for Camp Comfort, a bereavement camp for children ages 6 to 12, continues through July 30.
Camp Comfort is a weekend camp offered Aug. 6 to 8 that addresses the special needs of grieving children ages 6 to 12. Camp Comfort offers children a supportive environment in which they can gain an understanding of grief and loss. Children learn ways to cope with their grief through workshops and activities. Grief workshops are balanced with recreational activities such as swimming, boating, and fishing, so that children feel free to have fun and just be children. Camp Comfort is near Georgetown on Interstate 70 just 32 miles west of Denver. Cost for the weekend, including all meals, snacks, overnight accommodations, recreation and workshops is $150. hosting football league
The Doak Walker Tackle Football League, which begins in August, is hosted by the Craig Parks and Recreation Department for girls and boys in third through sixth grade. Volunteer coaches are needed for this program and are required to attend a mandatory coaches clinic Aug. 10 at 6 p.m.
All participants are required to attend practice at Woodbury Field at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 4 and 5. The cost is $40 to attend and registration deadline is July 30. Call 826-2004.
Tribute to those serving overseas is September
Names of people who are serving or have died in action in Iraq and Afghanistan are being collected for a tribute at the "Wings and Wheels in the 'Boat," a Labor Day celebration at Steamboat Springs Airport. Residents of Northwest Colorado should send information about relatives, friends or others serving overseas for a tribute at 11:30 a.m. Saturday during Labor Day weekend. Photos and information on those serving abroad will be displayed on a bulletin board while the tribute takes place. There may be a military flyover. mammograms, treatment
The Yampa Valley Breast Cancer Awareness Project has funds available through the end of the year to help pay for mammograms or breast cancer treatment for women who cannot afford such services. Call 879-1632.
Motocross races will be held Aug. 21-22 in Craig
Yampa Valley Sports Riders and Challenger Motosports are hosting motocross races in Craig for the RMXA District 25 Contingency Aug. 21 and 22. Call 824-2428.
Cooks being sought to participate in cook-off
Chili cooks are needed to take part in a chili cook-off from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 31 in Gondola Square as part of the Steamboat Mountain Chili Festival. Prizes include a ski vacation to The Canyons, Utah; dinner for two at The Cabin; and round-trip airline tickets. To enter, call 871-5382.
Fourth annual Golden Leaf Festival is coming
The Downtown Business Association is organizing the fourth annual Golden Leaf Festival to celebrate the arrival of fall in the Yampa Valley. The festival is Sept. 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The goal is to have a block full of activity. The main emphasis is local vendors, community groups and family oriented activities. The festival is a great opportunity for nonprofit groups to recruit new members or raise funds for their organizations.
Booth spaces are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis as fees are received. Vendors are responsible for tables, chairs and weather protection. Fees are $35 per space for commercial and individual use and $25 per space for nonprofit groups.

Entries still needed for Moffat County parade
Entries are needed for the Moffat County Fair parade, which will be held at 10 a.m. Aug. 14.
The parade is being sponsored by the Craig Lions Club and the Downtown Business Association. Entry applications are available at the Community Budget Center and Neolithics. Call Karen at 824-7898.
Hunter education class being offered at CMC
Colorado Mountain College offers a hunter education class Aug. 3 to 7 in Bogue Hall, Room 300. The class is required for all hunters born after Jan. 1, 1949 and participants must be at least 9 years old to participate.
Attendance in all class sessions is required. The cost is $10. Call 870-4444 to enroll.
Lions Club sponsoring Carson & Barnes circus
The Craig Lions Club is bringing the world's biggest big top to Craig to provide fun and entertainment for families.
The Carson & Barnes five-ring circus will be in Craig at 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Aug. 18 at the Moffat County Fairgrounds.
Tickets may be used as a promotional tool, an employee bonus or a community donation. Donated tickets will be offered to local children and adults who might not otherwise be able to attend. Proceeds from the ticket sales will be used for community projects sponsored by the Craig Lions Club.
Those include vision screening for children, eyeglasses and eye exams for low-income children and adults, high school scholarships and more.
The Carson & Barnes Circus has been on the road for 68 seasons. It is the largest show under a big top in the United States today.
Young Life golf tourney coming up in Steamboat
Entries are being accepted for the Steamboat Young Life Golf Tourney to begin at 12:30 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Sheraton Golf Club. The 18-hole, four-player scramble is a best-ball event.
The entry fee is $125 per player and covers green fees, lunch, cart, and gifts. All proceeds benefit Young Life.

Emerald City Opera to present La BohÃme
Emerald City Opera in Steamboat Springs presents "La BohÃme," featuring LeRoy Lehr of the Metropolitan Opera, James Taylor from the New York City Opera and Kara Shay Thompson of Chicago Opera Theater at 7 p.m. Aug. 6 and 3 p.m. Aug. 8 at the Steamboat Springs High School auditorium.
