News briefs for July 16


The Yampa Valley Electric Association Board of Directors elected a new slate of officers for 2004 following the annual meeting on June 19.
Pat McClelland of Steamboat Springs was elected chairman of the Board and Franklin "Pud" Stetson was elected vice chairman.
The YVEA board is responsible for establishing policies and procedures, rates and making key decisions that dictate the course for development of the association.
The board re-appointed Larry Covillo as president of the association, Cathy Uttech as association secretary and David Williams as treasurer and assistant secretary. As president and general manager, Covillo, oversees the day-to-day operations of the association.
YVEA is a nonprofit cooperative delivering electricity to nearly 24,000 meters in Routt and Moffat counties in Colorado and part of Carbon County in Wyoming. YVEA is a Touchstone Energy Cooperative. For more information call 879-1160.

Ride-N-Tie Rodeo
begins tonight
The annual Ride-N-Tie Rodeo is at 7 p.m. Friday and 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Moffat County Fairgrounds.
This year the Mountain States Junior Bull Riders events will be Saturday only beginning at 4 p.m. The MSJBR events will include a mutton busting (sheep riding) event for ages 4 to 6; a calf riding event for ages 8 and younger; a rough riders (steer riding) event for ages 11 and younger; and a young guns (bull riding) event for ages 13 and younger. The junior bull riding event is for ages 15 and younger and the senior bull riding event for ages 19 and younger. The top two riders in each division will compete in a "ride off" for the buckle in the championship round to be held the same evening during the Colorado Pro Rodeo Association 7:30 performance.

Blazing Saddles
Day Trip rescheduled
Craig Parks and Recreation has rescheduled its Blazing Saddles day trip for July 21.
Craig Parks and Recreation along with the Elk Horn Outfitters host the horse rides for the riders. No previous riding experience is necessary. Riders will depart from City Hall in the afternoon and return in the early evening. Cost is $50. There also is one more overnight trip scheduled for July 28 and 29. Cost for the overnight trip is $90. Call 826-2004.

DOW offering Cast and Blast event July 31
The Colorado Division of Wildlife is offering a women's only "Cast and Blast" from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. July 31. The event will be held at the Sleepy Cat Ranch, 16064 County Road 8 in Meeker for women 18 years old and up. The participants will receive instruction in both fly fishing and shotgun shooting. First Christian sets Vacation Bible School
First Christian Church is offering a vacation Bible school July 26-29.
"Jesus Helps You Power Up" is the theme. The school is from 9 a.m. to noon at First Christian Church, 960 W. Victory Way.
Classes are available for students from kindergarten (age 5 by Sept. 1) through adults.
Child care is provided for nursery and pre-school age children for anyone attending the adult class -- cross training for life. Sign up beginning at 8 a.m. July 26 at the church or call the church 824-6024.

Friends of the Library seeking participants
Friends of the Library is a non-profit group that works to supplement the tax support of the various library materials, programs, activities and special projects.
Anyone interested in improving the resources and services available from the Moffat County Library is invited to join the Friends of the Library group. Benefits of membership include: admission to "Members Only" preview of book sales, invitations to special library events, due-date flexibility on materials checked out of the library, fines forgiven for overdue materials, free notary services, free copies up to 50 and free fax services.
