Lavern Garold Maybury


Craig resident Lavern Garold Maybury died Feb. 19, 2004, at Colorado State Veterans Nursing Home, in Rifle, Colo. He was 75.

Maybury was born Sept. 1, 1928, near Hahn's Peak, to Harley S. and Fern (Burch) Maybury.

Maybury was raised in that area and then in Lakewood, Colo. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He later lived in Lakewood and Simila, before moving to Craig in 1989. He worked as a welder/mechanic on heavy equipment with his last employment being with Wagner Equipment Company. He enjoyed working on cars and having coffee at the Golden Cavvy with his friends.

Maybury is survived by his daughter, Linda (David) Manley, of Craig; grandchildren Valerie (Dave) Walters, of Craig, and Marlene Smith, of Craig; great-grandchildren Evan, Alana, and Lakota Walters; brothers Delmar (Dorothy) Maybury, of Yucca, Calif., and Niles Maybury, of Nevada; sister, Shirley (Lee) Elder, of Evergreen; and several nieces and nephews.

Maybury was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Gladys Hanson.

Services were at Craig Cemetery, Feb. 21, 2004 with Carter Chadwick and officers of VFW Post 4265 officiating.
