Judge made right decision to hold DEA accountable for raid

To the Editor:

The recent decision by Routt County Judge James Garrecht to hold the DEA accountable for its erroneous raid of an invalid's home in Hayden demonstrates not only judicial responsibility to protect patients complying with state law, but also underscores the failure of the federal government's war on drugs.

This country is full of people suffering from deficiencies in health and some choose to forgo expensive, ineffective pharmaceuticals in favor of natural herbs. For this they are punished, often with the severity of incarceration. Judge Garrecht's firm contempt of court charge against the Grand, Routt and Moffat Narcotics Enforcement Team should be commended and applauded by medical marijuana activists and drug policy reform advocates nationwide.
