The early season strife seems to have passed through the Moffat County High School wrestling team during the weekend.
The Bulldogs went 8-0 in duals and had every wrestler make weight during trips to Roosevelt, Utah, and Rock Springs, Wyo.
The Bulldogs won four duals in Rock Springs on Saturday. Korey Kostur, 140, was named the outstanding wrestler of the meet.
The Bulldogs defeated Jackson, Wyo., 52-30; Kremmerer, Wyo., 72-3; Ogden, Utah, 56-21; and Rock Springs, Wyo., 54-22.
Along with Kostur, junior Daniel Cramblett, 145, and seniors Shayne Zimmerman, 160, Eric Fredrickson, 130, and Scott Garoutte, 215, went undefeated in the tournament.
"I thought Shayne showed some good things, especially when wrestling from the bottom," coach Roman Gutierrez said. "As a team, we continue to wrestle more aggressively."
The Bulldogs averaged slightly more than six pins each dual for a total of 25 pins. Senior Brent Chamberlain, 171, and sophomores Chris McAlexander, 119, Jake Breslin, Brice Boling, 103, and Levi Weber, 125, were 3-1.
"The younger guys are coming along and will have a chance to make a name for themselves this weekend," Gutierrez said. "But you can't take away from little Fredrickson and Kostur, because they are winning."
Kostur and Fredrickson are undefeated.
"Korey is playing with a lot of his opponents at this point," Gutierrez said. "Eric is finessing, which is different from last year where he started out with a lot of pins."
Zimmerman also is undefeated at 10-0, but he didn't wrestle on the second day of the Las Vegas tournament because he didn't make weight.
After two weekends of out-of-state duals, the Bulldogs stay in Colorado this weekend for one of the most competitive tournaments in the state.
The Warrior Classic in Grand Junction routinely features the best of the best in Colorado wrestling.
The Bulldogs had a streak of four consecutive team wins at the Warrior snapped last year with a seventh-place finish. Their first two rounds of the Warrior will go on Friday, and the rest of the tournament will finish Saturday.
