What prompted you to open your business in Craig? I've lived in Craig all my life. I opened the business in 1996, and we've been at this location for six years.

How did you get into your line of business?

My husband had to have surgery because of an injury, and we knew the recovery time would be long, so we decided it was time for me to go to school and do what I loved. I completed the nail technician program at the Delta Tech Center and started a full-service nail tech business with five other professionals. My sister has been in this type of business for 26 years, so she helped a lot with encouragement and advice. The business has grown into a full-service salon with tanning, massage, facials, and several other services.

Describe your philosophy of being a good businesswoman. Care about the client. I believe in professionalism and treating every customer like a unique person with their own individual beauty. A good businessperson makes every client feel important, special and better when they walk out than when they walked in.

How do you define the role of your business in the community? Knez Ovations is a place to pamper yourself with every service available all in one spot. We want to provide a comfortable atmosphere where people can unwind. The full-day Spa package that is great for those who want it all, but we offer individual packages too; we tailor to what the customer wants.

What is the best part of your job?I enjoy all the clients I meet on a day to day basis. Each person is interesting and unique in their own way. I also really enjoy working with the group of professionals that have come to work here.

What is the most challenging part of your job? Getting clientele. There are lots of salons in this area, and to stay competitive we have to offer the best pricing and service and still find a way to be successful.

What advice would you give someone considering opening his or her own business? You truly need to enjoy what you're doing, and you need something that inspires you to keep you going even during hard times.Don't lose sight of your vision. Our vision is to make a difference in people lives and help them see themselves in a positive light on the outside and the inside. I have this written and posted in the salon so that we're always reminded of what we are really striving for.
