CNCC and Meeker School officials reach agreement
Officials from the Meeker School District and Colorado Northwestern Community College met July 20 to work out an agreement so Sandy Kloos, Director of the Meeker Center would continue to have a physical presence in Meeker.
CNCC closed the center on Sixth Street in June because of budget cuts.
The cuts were necessary for CNCC to become more inline with other system community colleges formulas for funding and precipitated by the drop in state revenues.
Meeker school officials along with community members want to ensure high school students have easy access to dual enrollment opportunities.
Dan Ewig, Superintendent for the Meeker school district said the program is essential if the district wants to give students a jump-start in their college career path.
"A four-year degree is really now five years," he said. "Having a CNCC presence is a huge benefit to the school district and the students."
Chief administrative Officer for CNCC, Dean Hollenbeck, said the meeting was very productive and is a positive move for all the players.
