What prompted you to open your business in Craig?
I had previously had the same business when I lived in Kremmling for 2 1/2 years, and desired to re-open my shop here when we moved to Craig in October 2002.

How did you get into your line of business?
I have loved to grow and design plants and flowers since I was a small child. I went to school in Wisconsin for horticulture and also floral design. When I chose to open "The Giving Tree," I decided to expand by offering gifts, jewelry and home decor.

Describe your philosophy of being a good businesswoman
It has always been my goal in any job experience to give the utmost in customer service. I continually strive -- and enjoy -- trying to exceed my customers' expectations.

How do you define the role of your business in the community?
I have always tried to offer both quality goods and services at an affordable price. I feel that by doing this, I am able to keep some shopping tax dollars here in our community.
What is the best part of your job?
My favorite part of my job is two-fold. I enjoy visiting with people when they come in and I also love "to play," which for me is being able to create various items all while working, whether it be an arrangement, for wedding flowers, or a mirror, or a picture frame, or ...

What is the most challenging part of your job?
Continually varying my selection so my shop is always "fresh" for those who frequent it.
What advice would you give a young person considering opening his or her own business? To the young (or not so young) entrepreneur: Open a business or offer a service that you love to do.
You cannot choose a career/business for the monetary aspect alone or it not only will be apparent in your demeanor with your customers, but it will carry over into your personal life as well.
