Traffic study unveiled tonight
Craig City Council has identified the section of U.S. Highway 40 between Ledford and Finley Streets as the most dangerous stretch of road in the city.
Tonight, residents get the chance to comment on how the danger should be mitigated.
City Council and the Colorado Department of Transportation are hosting an open housing at the Council Chambers tonight to discuss the safety improvement project planned for U.S. 40.
The city, the county and CDOT have been working on the project for the past year and a half. They've contracted Bechtolt Engineering, LLC, of Durango to perform a safety improvement study at a cost of $35,606.
Craig Police Chief Walt Vanatta said $50,000 had been budgeted for the study, and he hopes the leftover funds can be carried over into future phases of the project.
Possible highway modifications could include installation of a raised median, restricting turning movements at existing accesses, or consolidation and/or closure of existing access points.
Motorists are prohibited from making left-hand turns and crossing the street when exiting Kmart.
