Festival rewards summer readers

The Craig/Moffat County Library will celebrate the commencement of their summer reading program tomorrow by hosting the second annual Literacy Festival from 2 to 4 p.m.
The festivities, from puppet shows to science experiments, are open to anyone, not just summer reading participants.
Booths with various games and activities will adorn the library, and door prizes and drawings will be held.
At the fishing booth, participants can fish for a book's call number and receive a prize once they find the book. Science experiments will be outside, with face painting and storytelling inside.
The puppet shows were a big hit last year, and popcorn and dim lights will add a theater effect to this year's three performances.
Sherry Sampson, the Craig branch manager, said that in previous years events were held weekly, but having a big finale was a big hit last year.
"There is something for everyone, clear down to the little kids," Sampson said.
About 450 Craig residents participated by keeping track of either the number of books they read or the hours they spent reading. The Literacy Festival will celebrate the participants' achievements.
"This is summer, not school," she reminded. "It is leisurely, yet still learning."
