The record board at the Moffat County High School pool needs a facelift.
The boys swim team broke three school records at the Jeffco Invitational in Arvada Friday and Saturday.
"I couldn't be more pleased," coach Jim Vorhies said. "Everybody had a good weekend."
The 200-meter medley and 200 freestyle relay teams were two of the record breakers. The medley team of Zach Vorhies, Chris Compton, Nick Ruckman and Blake Worsley finished third in the meet and is now eight seconds under the state-qualifying standard.
Worsley, Vorhies, Ruckman and Andy Key followed the medley performance up with a record-breaking and fourth-place swim in 200 freestyle relay.
The top-five finishes paced the Bulldogs to a sixth-place team standing. The team with five varsity swimmers finished sixth out of 17 teams.
"We watched as the top three teams came up to get medals and they all had 15 to 20 people," coach Vorhies said. "It was pretty impressive for us and by far the best we've done here."
The 50 freestyle was the most successful race for Moffat County in the individual events. The Blue and White had three swimmers in the final and one in the consolation final. Worsley took fifth, Key finished seventh, Compton was eighth and Vorhies finished 13th.
The other school-record breaker was Ruckman in the 100 butterfly. His time was good enough for fifth place. Ruckman also took ninth in the 200 individual medley.
Other place winners in individual events were Compton in the 100 backstroke (eighth), Vorhies in the 100 breaststroke (10th ) and Worsley and Key in the 100 freestyle (ninth and 11th respectively).
In the JV portion of the meet Robert McClellan took off seven seconds from his previous best in the 100 freestyle and finished eighth. The medley relay of Abram Bologa, David McClellan, Robert McClellan and Shane Dodge finished eighth.
Next the Bulldogs will host Disrtict 51, the winners of the Jeffco Meet, Friday for the last home swim meet of the year for the Bulldogs.
