Moffat County ties with Palisade

April 18, 2004

With the wind to their backs, the Moffat County High School girls soccer team jumped on Palisade early.

Then they switched sides.

"We had a lot of chances in the first half and part of that was from the wind," coach Lori Smith said. "But it was a two different games when we switched sides."

Palisade came back to score twice in the second half, and the game ended in a 2-2 tie.

Moffat County went up on Palisade 2-0 in the first half with goals from Stephanie Braselton and Ashleigh Mann. In the first meeting between the teams the Blue-and-White Bulldogs went into half with a 1-0 lead. But Palisade scored three goals in the first 17 minutes of the second for a 3-1 win.

"We dropped intensity in the first game," Smith said.

In the second meeting, it took the Maroon Bulldogs more time to get in the net. Palisade scored 22 minutes into the second half and added the tying goal in the last seconds.

"I don't really want to complain about the officiating but the second half seemed a bit long," Smith said. "Even the Palisade coach said he thought the game should have been over before the final goal was scored."
