Jerry L. Odom of Craig died Friday, Aug. 22, 2003, while visiting his niece, Tonia, in Spokane, Wash. He was 61.
A memorial service for friends and family will be held at a later date in Avila Beach, Calif.
Jerry was born May 22, 1942, in Buckeye, Ariz., and moved to rural Arroyo Grande in the 1950s with his family. He attended local schools. Jerry was a construction worker belonging to Laborers Local 1464 in San Luis Obispo for many years. He then worked as an oil refinery maintenance worker for Timec Co., and Brown and Root, working at various oil refineries throughout California.
Odom was an avid sportsman. He loved fishing and hunting. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, he tried his hand at commercial fishing with his boat, Serenade, out of Port San Luis. When he became disabled in 1995, Odom pursued his love of fishing and hunting full time.
He moved to Arizona in 1997 to be closer to his sister, Willie, and family, following them a couple years later to Kentucky. In 2000 Odom moved to Colorado and thoroughly enjoyed the great fishing and hunting the state provided.
Odom is survived by his son, Israel Lee Odom of Nipomo; his mother, Thelma Odom of Santa Maria; three brothers Robert and wife, Judi, of Arroyo Grande, Johnny and wife, Lei-Lynn, of Oceano, and Leslie and wife, Lynn, of Crescent City; former wife, Patricia Odom, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Owen Odo and his sister, Willie Mae Odom.
