Resident urges others to vote no on recreation center

To the Editor:
Thank you Mr. Gordon Grandbouche for stating my sentiments about the recreation center. I would like to also add that I have a growing concern that it is becoming the government's job to provide public entertainment. It appears that governmental agencies are more able to absorb losses than the private sector on the backs of taxpayers.
There were several private individuals who tried different aspects of entertainment, and/or looked into it without success. Is the public using the existing recreation (e.g. miniature golf, paintball, parks and recreation programs, etc.) to their fullest extent now?
Adding sales tax in a town that is already so expensive will not encourage "shop Craig." Most shopping done outside of Craig is because of availability and variety.
The parents or parent, who are struggling to put food on the table, would most likely start traveling to Grand Junction where food is cheaper and no sales tax is charged on food items.
With the use tax, it appears we are trying to prevent vehicle shopping for the best deals and variety outside of Craig. All the exemptions seem to be aimed at socking it to the hard-working people in this community.
I do not think we should get involved in a recreation center when there are other needs in the community.
Please vote no on all things pertaining to the recreation center.
Twila White,
Craig
