JV, freshmen volleyball teams successful

While the Moffat County High School varsity volleyball team prepares for its district tournament Saturday, the freshmen and JV teams are home after both completed winning seasons.
"We had a great season," said freshmen coach Scot Brown. "I couldn't have picked a better group of girls to coach."
The freshmen finished the season 16-2 with their only losses coming to non-Western Slope Conference opponents Eagle Valley and Baggs, Wyo.
"The thing is about our losses is that if we would have played those teams again, I think we could have beat them," Brown said.
Included in the wins were two victories against Steamboat Springs, both of which Brown said were highlights in the season.
"This group has set a good precedent for the future of Moffat County volleyball," Brown said. "They played together, kept it positive and were happy to be there."
For the junior varsity squad, coach Jennifer Preece said other than a lull in the middle of the season, her team performed well.
"We were able to pick it back up after we struggled in the middle of the season with some consecutive losses," Preece said.
The JV squad finished 12-5 and with six seniors on this year's varsity team, six of the 10 JV players will be expected to fill that void next year.
Preece coached a majority of her JV players as freshmen also and she thought they would be ready to have a different coach.
"They're probably ready to get rid of me," she said. "I think they are ready for that next level."
