Craig woman dies in car crash

An automobile accident claimed the life of a Craig woman Tuesday night after her Chevrolet Malibu collided head-on with Chrysler van two miles south of Craig on Highway 13.

Karen Roth, 54, was pronounced dead soon after she arrived, via ambulance, at The Memorial Hospital. Jimmy Kurz, 40, also was transported to the hospital, suffering moderate injuries.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, Roth's vehicle was traveling northbound when it crossed over the centerline into oncoming traffic, colliding with the van driven by Kurz.

Both vehicles came to rest at the point of impact in the southbound lane.

The drivers were the only occupants in the vehicles. Both of them wore seatbelts. The accident remains under investigation. The State Patrol is awaiting a coroner's report to determine if alcohol was a factor in the accident.

Craig Fire/Rescue, TMH Emergency Medical Services and the Moffat County Sheriff's Office all responded to the scene and assisted the State Patrol.
