Students take initiative, create school magazines

It’s not often that students get excited to do more than the required classwork, but some fourth-grade students at East Elementary School are bucking that perception. Two students, who were up for a challenge recently, started their own magazine causing fellow classmates to follow suit. By reporting on everything that moves at the elementary school and taking the initiative to delve into some controversial and touchy subjects, students are soaking up the rewards of seeing their work in print.
ER overrun with cold, flu

In the past week, The Memorial Hospital’s emergency room has been overrun with flu cases. “Last weekend was very busy,”said Art Smith, registered nurse at TMH. “Within the last week, we’ve seen a big increase.” The emergency room was empty Friday morning as TMH operated with a skeleton crew. But Smith said that many children have been brought into the emergency room lately.

What began in May 2002 as a classified ad in the Craig Daily Press, has evolved into a team of compassionate individuals who are committed to providing opportunity and quality of life for pets in Moffat County. The Humane Society of Moffat County is currently operating under the non-profit status of the Routt County Humane Society, and has received tutelage and various levels of support from the Routt County group since its first informal meeting more than a year ago.
Downtown businesses get early start

Friday morning, shopkeepers in Craig crawled out of bed early, despite turkey-eating induced sluggishness, to open their stores at 7 a.m. and kick off the holiday shopping season with some predawn sales. The sales were organized by the Downtown Business Association, in the hopes of keeping Craig locals in town while they filled their Christmas lists.

A determined group of private investors and concerned residents is attempting to buy the Valley View Manor building from its former management company in hopes of reopening a long-term care facility in Craig, a spokesperson for the group told the Craig Daily Press Tuesday.
