Craig resident Elaine Alvina McStay died Nov. 4, 2003, at Valley View Hospital. She was 85.
McStay was born Jan. 4, 1918. in WaKeeney, Kan., to Edward and Emma L. (Tegtmeyer) Claycamp.
McStay was raised and attended school in WaKeeney. She married Harold K. McStay on Sept. 8, 1935, in Hays, and to this union six children were born, Allan, Janene, Vivian, Cheryl, Wes, and Mark. The family lived in Kansas until moving to Craig in 1962. She was a homemaker and enjoyed being around her children and grandchildren. She touched many lives through her playing of various musical instruments and writing of songs, and she also enjoyed painting. McStay had been living in the Heritage Park Nursing Home in Carbondale, Colo., the past few months, following the closure of Valley View Manor Nursing Home in Craig.
McStay is survived by her husband, Harold McStay, of Craig; daughters Janene Ogletree, of Craig, and Vivian (Victor) Michael, of Lakin, Kan.; sons Wes McStay, of Craig, and Mark (Nancy) McStay, of Craig; grandchildren Charles Michael, Colleen Douglas, Kim Martinez, Sonda Etheridge, Regina Allred, Collin McStay, Tammy Rodd, and Troy Michael; and great-grandchildren Cody and Cory Douglas, Travis and Taylor Martinez, Adrienne and April Etheridge, Ryan, Paige, Erin Rod, and Clay Michael.
McStay was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Allan, a daughter, Cheryl White, a grandson, Kevin Ogletree, son-in-law, Bobby Ogletree, and her five siblings.
Services were Nov. 7, 2003, at Grant Mortuary Chapel with John Wilson and Harlan Hamilton officiating. The organist was Anne Carr and the soloist was Michelle Michael. Selections were "Amazing Grace," "Be Not Afraid," and "How Great Thou Art."
Interment was at Craig Cemetery.
