Philip R. Weis, of Craig, died April 22, 2003, at Valley View Manor in Craig. He was 93.
Weis was born Sept. 27, 1909, in Salina, Kan., to Charles Leonard and Millie Mabel (Harvey) Weis. He was raised in various places in Kansas and attended school there through the eighth grade. He married Mildred Swanson on March 23, 1938, in Westcliffe, Colo.
Weis worked as a truck driver hauling hay and cattle and lived in Westcliffe and Florence before coming to Craig in 1987. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and dancing.
Weis is survived by his son, Charles (Sue) Weis, of Craig; daughters Alfreda (Bill) Prather, of Florence, Colo., Shirley (Larry) Luttrell, of Pueblo, Colo, Phyllis (John) Chadwick, of Craig, and Midge (Alex) Chavez, of Northglenn, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Net Harmon, of Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred; two great-grandchildren; parents; brothers Albert, Fred and Harvey; and sisters Lizzy, Ethel, Frances and Thelma.
Services were April 26, 2003, at Grant Mortuary Chapel with Bill Lyon officiating. The organist was Barbara Nagoda with a duet by Alex Chavez and Roxanne Chadwick. Selections were "Just a Closer Walk with Thee" and "Lord I Lift Your Name On High." The special selection was "The Impossible."
Pallbearers were John Chadwick Jr., Rick Buhler, Jim Weis, Ken Chadwick, Chuck Weis II, Jim Weis and David Weis.
Honorary pallbearers were Marty Walker, James Turner, Rick Buhler, T.C. Prather, Chuck Weis III, Randy Delarosa and Leroy Maldonato in memoriam.
Interment followed at Craig Cemetery. The graveside musical selection was "Amazing Grace."
Memorial contributions can be made to the Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurses Association and Hospice in care of Grant Mortuary.
