Madeline T. Mercer-Gale


Madeline T. Mercer-Gale died April 19, 2003, at Valley View Manor in Craig. She was 89.

Mercer-Gale was born Dec. 15, 1913, in Dighton, Mass., to Manuel and Mary (Sousa) Grassie. She was raised and attended school in Massachusetts, which is also where she married Ernest Mercer.

She lived all of her married life in California and worked in an electronics plant for many years. She later married George Gale. She moved to Craig to be near her son, Roland. She enjoyed camping, fishing, knitting, crocheting, square dancing, gardening and cooking.

Mercer-Gale is survived by her husband, George Gale, of California; sons Roland (Kathy) Mercer, of Craig, and John (Nomi) Mercer, of California; daughter-in-law, Jean Mercer, of California; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sisters, Darlene Scolamero, Mary Grassie, Ann Raymond and Margaret Galemo, all of Massachusetts.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Lillian and Virginia; her first husband, Ernest; and a son, Paul.
