Area residents are invited to a community picnic Saturday to honor area armed services members, veterans and their families.
The picnic kicks off at 11 a.m. and is scheduled to run until 2 p.m. at the south end of City Park next to the VFW.
The picnic, which was organized by the Craig Daily Press, is sponsored by the Craig Lions Club, The Cedar Mountain Lions Club, the Elks Club, the VFW and VFW Ladies Auxiliary, KRAI, City Market, Kmart, Coca Cola and the Yampa Valley Electric Association.
Earlier this week, the Moffat County Commission passed a proclamation declaring Saturday "Hometown Heroes Day" in honor of Moffat County's soldiers, sailors, Marines and airmen.
Saturday will be celebrated as Armed Services Day throughout the nation.
While major military operations were ongoing in Iraq, the Craig Daily Press ran names and pictures of about 50 armed forces members who are either from Moffat County or have family here under the heading "Hometown Heroes."
