Craig resident Iola LaVurn Zimmerman died March 18, 2003, at her home. She was 83.
Zimmerman was born July 4, 1919, in Slater, Colo., to Milo L. and Clara A. (Hoggatt) McPherson. She was raised in the Slater area for a short time and then the family moved to Steamboat Springs where Zimmerman went to school through her sophomore year.
She married James Leaburn Zimmerman
on Sept. 25, 1937, in Steamboat.
They later lived in Fruita, Colo., Craig, Oregon and then returned to Craig in 1949 where she has lived ever since.
She was a beautician and worked for Adele Chandler for many years and then at a shop in the Cosgriff Hotel before opening up her own shop in her home.
She was a very private person, but always enjoyed being with her family.
Zimmerman is survived by her son, Andrew Larry Zimmerman Sr., of Craig; grandchildren Andrew Larry Zimmerman Jr., Austin
Lloyd Zimmerman, Adam Lance Zimmerman and Aileen Lynette Zimmerman; two great-grandchildren Brandon and Chelsea;
sisters Mabel Vesely, of Craig, and Aileen Wynkoop, of
Fruita; and brother,
Robert M. McPherson, of Fruita.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers James E., Everette L. and Roger A.; her husband, James L. Zimmerman and two grandchildren Meta Lorraine and Allan Laddre Zimmerman.
Services were March 21, 2003, at Grant Mortuary Chapel with Robert Snavley officiating. Eileen Wynkoop was the organist and soloist. Selections were "Over the Sunset Mountains," "Serenaded By Angels" and "Sheltered in the Arms of God."
Pallbearers were Garry Wynkoop, Duane McPherson, Stanley McPherson,
Burkie Wynkoop, Milo McPherson and Darwin Vesely.
Honorary pallbearers were Michael McPherson, Roger McPherson, Glenn McPherson and Darrell Vesely.
Interment followed at Craig Cemetery.
