Mesa, Ariz., resident Sylvia H. Timmer died May 22, 2003. She was 96.
Timmer was born May 8, 1907, in Ingalls, Okla., to William and Eliza House. When she was 8, the family moved to Craig and homesteaded out on Great Divide. She married Herman Timmer in 1927 and had four children.
Timmer worked on the ranch, taught at the Morapos school and waitressed in Craig until moving to Mesa, Ariz., in 1947.
She and Herman owned and operated a motel and then bought an orchard where they retired.
Timmer was active in the Mesa Garden Club, volunteered at Sunshine Acres Boy's Ranch and enjoyed painting, leatherwork, ceramics, knitting and crocheting.
Timmer is survived by her son, Jack, of Craig; daughters Betty Joe Kawchack, of Craig, Willa Davis, of Mesa, Ariz., and Luella (Karl) Wheeler, of El Cajon, Calif.; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Nora McKinnon, of Cottonwood, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman; parents William and Eliza; three brothers; Alfred, Lloyd and Ray; three sisters; Addie May House, Ora Miller and Lila Osborn.
Services were May 28, 2003, in Mesa, Ariz. Interment followed at Mountain View Memorial Gardens in Mesa, Ariz.
