Triple Crown World Series headed for Moffat County

The road to the World Series doesn't go through Atlanta, Los Angeles or Chicago -- it goes through Routt and Moffat counties.

The qualifier for the boys baseball World Series through Triple Crown will be held jointly in Craig and Steamboat Springs.

A boys baseball tournament for ages 14 through eight will start Friday and run through Sunday. Anyone can enter this tournament and the final series will be held in Steamboat Springs.

There will be a total of 5 tournaments held during the Triple Crown, according to Dave Pike, director of parks and recreation for Craig.

This week's tournaments will be followed by:

  • June 27 and 28, boys baseball
  • July 31-August 2, boys baseball
  • August 7-9, girls fast pitch softball
  • August 14-16, girls fast pitch softball

The tournaments make use of facilities including Woodbury and Loudy-Simpson in Craig and various venues in Steamboat Springs.

Coach Shane Camilletti has coached his team of 10-year-olds and under for three years. Their schedule is two games on Friday and two on Saturday.

According to Camilletti, all teams that are entered are split into two pools. Each team plays four games in their pool and the top two teams in each pool play each other in a single elimination round. The team that wins is qualified for the boys baseball World Series.
