Craig resident Steven Craig Shelton died June 19, 2003, at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction, Colo. He was 44.
Shelton was born Dec. 8, 1958, in Denver, to Jerry E. and Anna (Shakel) Shelton.
Shelton lived in Denver until the age of 16 when the family moved to Craig. He graduated from Moffat County High School. He married Jean A. Stichberry on Aug. 17, 1991, in Craig. Shelton worked at the power plant in Craig as a plant operator and had been employed there for the past 14 years. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and loved the outdoors, where he enjoyed snow machining, fishing, hunting, camping, and playing golf. But his passion in life was riding motorcycles. He also enjoyed restoring his truck.
Shelton is survived by his wife, Jean Shelton, of Craig; daughter, Rachel Shelton, of Craig; stepson, Jean-Pierre Petuya II, of Craig; parents, Jerry and Anna Shelton, of Craig; sister, Debra (Paul) Lueck, of Grand Junction; brother, Mike (Beverly) Shelton, of Craig; and by many other relatives.
Services were June 27, 2003, at First Congregational Church with Dave Ross officiating. A poem was read by Debra Lueck.
Pallbearers were Mike Shelton, Dave Price, Terry "Loop" Looper, Jim Wilkinson, Shane Moore, and Frank "Butch" Wagner.
Honorary pallbearers were all of his many friends.
Interment was at Craig Cemetery.
