Harrisonville, Mo., resident Gretta Murle Helleson died March 4, 2003, at Crown Care Center in Harrisonville. She was 103.
Hellesen was born Nov. 21, 1899, in Palisade, Neb., to Elverton Devilo and Eurie Salone (Murphy) Solace.
On Aug. 25, 1920, she married Raymond Arthur Hellesen. She was a graduate of Nebraska Teaching College and taught grades 1 through 12 in a one-room schoolhouse in Nebraska and Colorado. While living in Craig, she worked at the Golden Rule Store, Craig Creamery and for the county superintendent of schools. She moved to California in 1955 and to Missouri in 1988.
Hellesen is survived by a son, Wayne Hellesen, of Prineville, Ore.; daughters Isla Rae Fox, of Tehachapi, Calif., and Jerry Lee Pickering, of Lee's Summit, Mo.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Hellesen was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Hellesen; two sons, Denzil Hellesen and Donald Hellesen; and one grandson, Eric Hellesen.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. June 28, 2003, followed by a graveside service at Craig Cemetery.It was a combined service for Hellesen and her sister-in-law, Eliza Solace of Baggs, Wyo.
