Chester A. "Slim" Roberts died Jan. 7, 2003, in a Midland, Texas, hospital from pneumonia. He was 93.
Roberts was born Jan. 28, 1909, in Rocky Comfort, Mo., to Charley and Minnie Roberts. He married Ruth Thayer in Cody, Wyo., and then started working in the oil fields, which took him to Rangely, Colo. He later moved to Wilson Creek and his three boys attended Meeker schools and they became part of the community.
After 31 years with Texaco, Roberts retired in Vernal, Utah. After the death of his wife, his health started failing and he moved to be with his son in Oklahoma City, Okla., and later to Midland.
He was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Cody, Wyo., and a member of the Elks Lodge in Craig and Vernal. Other than fishing and hunting, his greatest love was to swap stories with other people, which made his lodge associations dear to him.
Roberts is survived by his son, Alan (Diane) Roberts, of Midland; grandchildren, Kevin and Pam Roberts, of Montgomery, Texas, Lisa and David Laird, of Austin, Texas, Teresa and Steven Wade, of Austin, Cheryl and Mike Bruno, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Gayle Roberts of Lacey, Wash.; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; sons, Warren and Dick; and brothers, Jim and Homer.
Services were Jan. 14, 2003, at the Meeker Funeral Home. Interment followed at the Highland Cemetery in Meeker.
