Craig man injured in wreck

A Craig man suffered head injuries in a two-car accident two miles west of Milner Sunday.

Keith Dorland, 19, was flown to a Denver hospital after the accident, in which he was ejected and thrown some 60 feet from his vehicle at 7:52 a.m. on U.S. Highway 40, according to the State Patrol.

Dorland was listed this morning in critical condition at Denver Health Medical Center.

Dorland's 1989 Subaru Justy, which was westbound on the highway, began to rotate counter clockwise before crossing into the eastbound lane and colliding with a 1994 Ford Explorer driven by 20-year-old Sergio Cerda-Jimenez of Hayden.

Both cars skidded off the south side of the highway after the collision.

Cerda-Jimenez and a passenger, Altagracia Valdez, 36, were treated for injuries at Yampa Valley Hospital and released that same day.

Dorland was not wearing his seatbelt, while Cerda-Jimenez and Valdez were, according to police.

Charges are pending in the accident, which the State Patrol attributed to alleged "careless driving and tires without legal tread depth" on Dorland's vehicle.
