It's a tradition for the Moffat County High School girls swim team to throw coach Ed Stehlin in the pool after the final home meet of the year, but it usually takes the whole team.
This year was different.
"The seniors had no problem getting me in," he said. "There's so many of them, they didn't need any help."
Fourteen seniors and the rest of the team combined in their final home competition for a 129-42 victory over Delta. It was their first win in a head-to-head meet this year. Mainly due to the absence of Glenwood Springs, a team the Bulldogs had faced and lost to in every meet this year.
"I think this was a good meet for them to finish with at home," Stehlin said. "It was probably a little bit of a confidence booster to not be chasing Glenwood in every event."
Moffat County won 10 of the 12 events and in seven of the wins, there was a Bulldog in second place as well.
"It helped us relax a little bit when we were out there," said senior Jada Hastings. "Relaxing might have slowed the times down but it was nice to win the final home swim meet."
Wins for the Bulldogs came in the 200 meter medley relay (Jenna Waite, Sari Maneotis, Kallie Murphy, Miranda Hillewaert), 200 individual medley (Chloe Gilchrist), 50 freestyle (Hillewaert), diving (Amanda Vaughn), 100 butterfly (Maneotis), 100 freestyle (Cara Conci), 200 freestyle relay (Hillewaert, Murphy, Danyel Harman, Cara Conci), 100 breat stroke (Murphy), and the 400 meter freestyle relay.
Second- and third-place finishes came for the Bulldogs in the 200 medley relay (Nicole Vorhies, Hastings, Rachel Kane, Cassie Owens, 3rd), 200 freestyle (Julie Strahan, 2nd, Conci, 3rd), 200 individual medley (Maneotis, 2nd, Kane, 3rd), 50 freestyle (Harman, 3rd,), 100 butterfly (Jody Thompson, 2nd, Owens, 3rd), 100 freestyle (Vorhies, 2nd, Strahan, 3rd), 500 freestyle (Katie Stewart, 2nd,) 200 freestyle relay (Owens, Strahan, Gilchrist K. Gainor, 2nd), 100 backstroke (Vorhies, 2nd), 100 breast stroke (Hastings, 2nd, Katie Gainor 3rd), 400 freestyle (Strahan, Kane, Vorhies, Maneotis, 2nd).
After the meet, the seniors all gathered under a banner on the wall that said, "We love our seniors" for pictures.
Hastings said it was starting to set in that the season is coming to an end.
"We'd been talking about it all week as our last home meet," she said.
"We were joking when we had our first meet at home how it was our 'last, first meet' but now that was our actual last meet and it's setting in."
