Locals make hungry travelers feel like family

To the Editor:

We constantly hear about all the bad stuff going on in the world like terrorism, war and child abuse.

Well, I want to tell you about something nice, right here in our own back yard!

I live in Steamboat, but was in Craig visiting relatives and friends on Easter Sunday. My friend Deb and I decided to go out for lunch. We had a craving for Mexican food and decided to try Pat's Roosterante.

There was a large sign on the door that said CLOSED FOR EASTER. That was understandable. But, as we started to walk away, a woman came out of the restaurant and asked if we thought they were open.

The lady was Pat Padilla, the restaurant's owner.

We said not to worry because we knew it was a holiday. But her reply was, "Please come in and eat with my family and friends, we have lots of food."

We tried to say no, but Pat wouldn't hear of it. So, we joined these wonderful people that we had never met before, and had a meal fit for a king. We left with a warm feeling in our hearts and a true feeling of community spirit.

I sincerely want to "Pay It Forward."

Thank you Pat, Kay and family for your generous hospitality.
