Craig resident Thane W. Bacon died March 24, 2003, at Valley View Manor. He was 48.
Bacon was born April 2, 1954, in Brush, Colo., to Forrest T. and Phyllis M. (Doyle) Bacon. He was raised in Brush until moving to the Craig area when he was in fourth grade. He finished school in Craig, graduating from Moffat County High school in 1972.
He married Yvonne Forbes on June 1, 1976, in Craig and worked as a deputy for the Moffat County Sheriff's Department. He joined the Moffat County Road and Bridge Department where he was a maintainer operator.
He enjoyed roping, anything to do with horses, hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Rio Caromo, the Craig Roping Club and First Christian Church.
Bacon is survived by his wife, Yvonne Bacon, of Hamilton, Colo., sons Shawn W. Bacon, of Craig, and Jason W. (Sarah) Bacon, of Craig; sisters Terry (Chuck) Crouse, of Craig, Sondra (Ken) Dobner, of Craig, and Gaynell (Jake) Olsen, of Craig; brothers Richard (Janet) Bacon, of Salem, Utah, and E.G. (Debbie) Humphrey, of Aurora, Utah; in-laws Stanley and Louise Forbes, of Hamilton, and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Marshal Bacon; and step-father, Elmer Humphrey.
Services were March 26, 2003, at the Moffat County Fairgrounds Pavilion with Beryl Wright officiating. Doug and Becky Field performed a duet. The selections were "The Power of His Love" and "Amarillo by Morning."
Honorary pallbearers were all of his many friends.
Services concluded at the pavilion.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or the Craig Roping Club, both in care of Grant Mortuary.
