Craig resident Albert Paul "Bert" Villard died March 25, 2003. He was 78.
Villard was born on May 24, 1924, in Price, Utah, to Felix and Marie (Jeanselme) Villard. He was raised in Price until his family started ranching in Craig during the summers in 1928. The family shared their time between Price and Craig until they moved to Craig year round in 1940.
In Craig, Villard attended school at Fortification and in Craig. Felix died in 1929, and when Villard and his brother, Clair, were old enough, they helped their mother on the ranch. They went into partnership in 1954 and continued to ranch with their mother.
In 1962, Marie retired from the ranch and Villard and his brother continued their ranch partnership until 1991. At that time, Villard retired and sold his interest to his nephew, Albert F. Villard.
Villard continued to shadow the ranch operation, always willing to help in any way. He loved spending time with his family and loved animals. He also enjoyed working in his yard and caring for his flowers. He was a member of the Craig Elks Lodge and St. Michael's Catholic Church.
Villard is survived by his sister, Midge Cowley, of Price, Utah; brother, Clair (Bonnie) Villard, of Craig; nieces and nephews Jeanette (Bob) Perich, Lynette (John) Lessar, Paula (Morris) Flygare, Gary Holdaway, Claude, Terry (Kathy), Mike, Steve (Robin), John (Dawn), Randy (Wendy) Cowley, Janice (Jim) Nicoletto, Lynn (Christine), Albert F.
