Fredrick Eugene "Gene" McAnally died Wednesday, August 28, 2002, in Denver Colo., after a sudden illness. McAnally, who was also known to many as "Mac" was a life-long resident of Northwestern Colorado.
He was born Oct. 22, 1950, along with fraternal twin, Loyd, to James L. and Marjorie McAnally in Craig.
The twins joined older brother James L. III "Roy," and were later joined by sister, Marcella.
The family lived for several years in Arvada, Colo., where McAnally graduated from Arvada West High School in 1968. He moved to Craig in 1975, where his grandparents homesteaded in the early 1920s and his father was raised.
McAnally grew up hunting and fishing in the area with his extended family.
He married Nancy R. Thompson on July 30, 1977, in Steamboat Springs, Colo. Through the years, McAnally worked as ranch manager for the Saddle Mountain, Wolf Mountain, and Elk Run ranches. He was known for his dedication to hard work, always having a smile and always being armed with a joke. In his leisure time, he enjoyed traveling with his wife, hunting, golfing and sharing stories with friends.
McAnally is survived by his wife Nancy; mother, Marjorie of Denver, Colo.; brother, Roy (Georgina), of Craig; brother, Loyd (Kim) of Thornton, Colo.; sister, Marcella Heinrich (Dennis) of Arvada, Colo.; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roy.
