City Council honors clerk with proclamation

The Craig City Council took one action Tuesday night that wasn't on the agenda.

Council members unanimously approved a resolution proclaiming the week of April 28 through May 4 as Municipal Clerks Week an action that caught City Clerk Shirley Seely by surprise. But like a good city clerk, she continued to take notes on the proclamation and the action that made it official. That duty allowed her to hide her slightly pink cheeks until she could look up and say, in a contained and professional manner, "this really is a surprise."

Seely has worked with the city for 20 years, serving as the city clerk/personnel director and doing a six-month stint as the interim city manager.

"She knows a lot about the entire city operation and was invaluable to me when I was getting settled into the community," City Manager Jim Ferree said.

The council applauded Seely's service to the city and voiced their appreciation for all she does.

"She is extremely competent both technically and administratively, but what I am impressed by most of all is how deeply she cares for the city organization and our community," Ferree said. "When we tackle problems or issues she always focuses on what is best for the City of Craig."
