Family on prayer mission ponder the 'sonrise'

Editor's note: A Craig family started a trek across the country March 7 to pray in 24 eastern states called the Goliath Project. What follows is the second installment of their journey. The Craig Daily Press will publish weekly articles from the Haynes family as they progress on their journey.

Saturday, March 23

We were in Wilmington, N.C. and decided that we needed to see the sun rise over the ocean. So, at 5 a.m. we woke up and dressed warm and set off for the beach.

We have been to the Pacific Ocean and have seen the sunset; so we felt that we needed to see what the Atlantic has to offer as far as sunrises.

We were the only people on the beach (it was just 28 degrees out) and we enjoyed our time there so much. The tide had just gone out, so the kids did some beachcombing and were thrilled with the shells they found.

But the most exciting thing was when the sun first peeked above the horizon at 6:11 a.m.; a new day had indeed begun.

This makes us think about an even more important sunrise spelled a bit differently. This is the "sonrise." Just as we were excited to see the sun peek out yesterday, so were the believers excited to see Jesus again.

Just think how thrilling that had to be for them. They had walked and talked with Jesus and then endured the pain of watching Him be unfairly accused, tried and put to death.

Then came Sunday, they went to His grave to find it empty. What did this mean? It wasn't long before they found out what had happened; just like he shared would happen he rose from the dead! Jesus died for all of us, as painful as what he went through was, he did this for us.

We feel so privileged to be have the opportunity to travel to all 50 states to pray.

Our prayers are for this country. We are not praying that we would become a powerful and prosperous nation.

We are praying for people, families and churches across this country to humble themselves and admit we have gone our own way.

As we pray we are asking God to revive His church and move in the hearts of people all across this land who do not know Jesus.

This country has departed so far from the God's standards and the Christian Heritage that was so key to the founding of this country. The Bible promises that if God's people will turn to Him in humility, confession and in prayer that we would hear from Him. 14 "if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14 "Oh, how we long to hear from heaven!"

This week is Holy Week. As we think about what this week means for Christians all around the world I would urge you to quiet your heart this week and listen to God. As you consider the events of this Holy Week I urge you to, "Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!" Psalm 46 10. If you accept the Christian message of the cross I urge you to pause, give thanks and renew your commitment to the Lord this week. If you have never received this message personally this could be your week.

We will celebrate the resurrection of our Savior this Easter Sunday somewhere in Kentucky. We pray that you have a wonderful Holy Week and a great celebration this Resurrection Sunday.

Thank you for your prayers and notes of encouragement. Know that we are thinking and praying for you this week.

Trusting Him,

The Haynes Five
