This weekend Craig will be invaded by preteens wearing high top sneakers and baggy shorts.
Craig is hosting an Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) boys basketball tournament for sixth through eighth grade.
Jim Duran, who coaches a Moffat County boys eighth-grade team, said 22 teams will be participating in the tournament.
Teams from Grand Junction, Fruita, Delta, Steamboat Springs and Carbondale will be competing as well as a few teams from Wyoming and Utah.
"This tournament brings a lot of people into town," Duran said.
The AAU organization, which Duran estimated has been in Craig for about 15 years, gives young athletes an opportunity to compete in addition to school athletics.
"AAU gives the kids a chance to see more competition," he said. "That's why we do it."
The team Duran coaches keeps busy playing basketball on the weekends.
"Our eighth-grade group has gone all over and done fairly well," he said. "We're going to Grand Junction next weekend."
The Craig tournament begins at 5 p.m. Friday and goes until 10 p.m.
Saturday the tournament begins at 8 a.m. and concludes at 5 p.m.
Games will be played at the high school, middle school and intermediate school gymnasiums.
"We'd like to see people come take a look and support us," he said.
