Three weeks after the Bulldogs wrestling team captured its second state title, the accolades continue.
During last night's wrestling banquet, eight Bulldogs were named as All-Conference wrestlers.
Seniors Cody Fredrickson, Kyle Kostur, Mark Hastings, Travis and Ryan Linsacum, Cory Hixson, junior Ty Weber and freshman Eric Fredrickson were named to the team.
Coach Roman Gutierrez touts the team as one of the state's top programs if not the best.
"This is just an outstanding team and group of guys," he said, addressing a room full of parents.
"They've worked for all they've gotten and the team is, I believe, the most dominant in the state of Colorado."
There were three wrestlers who placed at state who did not make the conference honor roll for the Bulldogs.
Juniors Brandon Duarte, Ty Grandbouche and Trevor Sloan wrestled to places in the top five at state but missed out on All-Conference at the regional tournament.
To be considered an All-Conference wrestler, an athlete must place in the top two at regionals.
Gutierrez was also honored during the evening, earning his second Coach of the Year award in as many years.
Six wrestlers were also named to Academic All-Conference.
To be considered for an Academic All-Conference award, an athlete needs to carry a
3.3 grade-point average or better.
"We need to give out more of these," athletic director Jim Loughran said.
"They're called student athletes for a reason and we need to push them not only to excel on the mats but in the classroom as well."
