Margaret L. Jones
Craig resident Margaret L. Jones died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002 at Valley View Manor. She was 81.
Jones was born on Oct. 27, 1920, in Clifton, Colo., to Robert and Anna Burkhalter. She grew up and attended school in Clifton. She then attended Mesa State College in Grand Junction and then Pepperdine University in California.
After graduating from college, Jones returned to Grand Valley, Colo., where she taught school.
On Feb. 28, 1945, she married Robert H. Jones in Los Angeles. They returned to Craig and Jones worked for the superintendent of schools office for a time and then moved to the county treasurer's office where she worked under Russell Coles and then Ralph Razzano. She then was elected county treasurer and served almost two terms.
Jones enjoyed her gardening, doing crafty things with yarn, and reading. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge, the Farmers and Homemakers Club and the First Christian Church.
Jones is survived by her son, Alan Jones of Orange, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Carole; brother, Frank; and her husband, Robert.
Services were on Feb. 19, 2002, at the Grant Mortuary Chapel with Mervin Johnson officiating with organist Anne Carr. The selection was "Old Rugged Cross."
Pallbearers were Jim Hume, Tom Deakins, Homer Wilson, Ernest Allen, Earl Van Tassel Jr. and Bill Rippy Jr. Interment followed at the Craig Cemetery.
