Some suspicious Moffat County residents who did Internet research provided the necessary clues for the Moffat County Sheriff's Office to arrest a wanted fugitive.
Freddie L. Walker, 38, was arrested Tuesday for violation of parole in Florida, and is awaiting extradition, according to the MCSO.
Because Walker violated his parole, he cannot appeal the extradition process, according to Sheriff Buddy Grinstead.
The Moffat County Sheriff's Office and Craig Police Department combined forces to locate the suspect.
"To make a long story short, Walker and his wife were here in Moffat County, and Walker took advantage of the warm-hearted generosity of some members of our community," he said. "Things were not totally adding up, and these residents became suspicious. They learned who the individual calling himself Ted Gainess actually was by accessing the Florida Department of Corrections website."
The Sheriff's Office contacted Florida officials after reviewing the information, according to Grinstead.
"We found he was wanted on an active warrant, and that Florida would extradite him if he was arrested," he said. "Walker has an extremely long record."
Walker was on parole from a conviction on three counts of trafficking stolen property and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
Grinstead said the residents who identified or turned Walker in to authorities have asked not to be identified.
Walker is being held in the Moffat County Public Safety Center Jail until Florida officials arrive to extradite him.
