Local students interested in attending the University of Colorado have a chance to meet the school's top official Wednesday.
President Elizabeth Hoffman, accompanied by CU Regents Gail Schwartz and Maureen Ediger, will visit Craig Wednesday as part of a community outreach tour program.
College officials began the tour in Glenwood Springs Monday meeting with business and community leaders, elementary and high school representatives, students, parents and alumni and will do the same in Craig Wednesday.
"The CU community gatherings are a way to bring CU to area citizens, and to get to know our friends and supporters in Garfield and Moffat counties," Hoffman said in a press release. "By taking the University of Colorado to the community, we can inform Coloradans about CU's many outreach and distance education programs, as well as gauge how well the university is meeting the needs of the area."
Hoffman will be at Moffat County High School at 9 a.m Wednesday to meet with students interested in attending the University of Colorado.
"We are delighted to have representatives come to the community so they can get to know us and we can get to know them," said Moffat County High School Counselor Sandie Johns.
On average Johns said about 10 to 15 students apply to the University of Colorado each year, while about five to 10 students a year go to school at one of the four CU campuses.
The four University of Colorado campuses are located in Boulder, Denver and Colorado Springs, and a Health Sciences Center campus is located in Denver at the former Fitzsimons Army Base in Aurora.
Johns encouraged students in all grade levels to attend the session and meet the president.
She said students do not need to bring anything but themselves and their parents, if they would like.
"It's just an informative session that will get the students acquainted and learn the process of applying," she said. "It's an excellent opportunity to meet the president."
