The Moffat County commissioners signed a lease/purchase option for The Memorial Hospital to purchase a new computer system at Monday morning's Board of County Commissioners meeting.
The $800,000 system is being lease financed from Custom Programming Services, Inc., a Dallas-based computer company.
TMH Chief Financial Officer Roger White said the system would be paid off over five years at a 4.5 percent interest rate.
"At the end of the pay period we own the system," he said. "The life span for a computer system is about 12 years."
Hospital Administrator Randy Phelps said the new system would help TMH comply with patient confidentiality rights.
"We have to print bills in a certain way to assure patient privacy," he said. "Right now we can't do that."
The new system will be used in all hospital departments including financial, data entry and test results, White said.
"We can transfer lab results to doctors at home and from there they can make decisions," Phelps said.
The system is mobile and could be transferred to a new hospital if one were to be built.
