Woman proposes humane society in Moffat County
To the Editor:
About a month ago I had the pleasure of rescuing a Craig shelter dog on behalf of a couple of friends of mine.
On the one hand, it was a wonderful feeling "rescuing" an animal in need of a good home. On the other hand, I was very saddened that I was taking only one dog and leaving the rest behind. What was going to happen to the three lab-mix puppies and the two hound dogs? And while I was pretty optimistic the puppies would be adopted, I felt sad for the hounds because it seemed that the chances of their adoption were slim.
The above event affected me greatly. As president of the Routt County Humane Society, I would like to meet with other concerned animal lovers to see how the RCHS can help Moffat County residents prevent the euthanization of perfectly adoptable animals.
I would like to invite all residents, especially the animal lovers of Moffat County, to attend a meeting from 10 a.m. to noon May 4 at the Holiday Inn of Craig. We will discuss the possibility of creating an organization whose primary function would be to encourage respect for the dignity and worth of all animals.
Sincerely,
Josie Dean,
President, Routt County Humane Society
