Son accidentally kills father on hunting trip

SAGUACHE, Colo. (AP) A 46-year-old Colorado Springs man was shot and killed by his son in an elk hunting accident in the mountains, Saguache County Sheriff's investigators said.
Steven Chisman and his son, David, 22, had ridden horses about 3.5 miles from their camp Wednesday morning when they spotted a cow elk southeast of Sawtooth Mountain and north of Cochetopa Pass, Undersheriff Mike Norris said.
They dismounted about 10 feet apart and knelt on the ground. The elder Chisman shot first and the horses bolted, Norris said.
The younger Chisman fired just as the horses bolted. The shot hit his father in the lower torso or upper abdomen, Norris said.
David Chisman went for help to the nearest ranch. When he and others returned, his father was dead.
Norris said no charges would be filed.
Steven Chisman had recently acquired his father's Colorado Springs painting business when the older man retired, Norris said. David Chisman is an electrician.
