The Craig sixth-grade girls basketball team, the Bullpups, traveled to Grand Junction May 5-6 to participate in the All Star Classic five-team tournament.
On May 5, the bullpups dominated the court by winning three straight games. In the first game, the 'Pups defeated the Supreme Court of Grand Junction with a score of 27-19. Then went on to beat Rifle 24-17. They rounded out the day by defeating Cedaredge 36-18.
The dazzling performance on Saturday earned the 'Pups the No. 1 seed in Sunday's championship bracket.
In the first round of the single-elimination bracket, the 'Pups extended their winning streak to four straight games by defeating the Rifle Bears 24-10. This win put the 'Pups in the driver's seat for the championship game, knowing they were to face Grand Junction again. Unfortunately, the 'Pups had a flat first half, only scoring four points. They rallied back but fell short to Supreme Court with a final score of 25-20.
Despite having the best win-loss record of the tournament, the Bullpups took home second place.
The pups will take a break for now, but look for some more exciting action from them in the future.
Cook Chevrolet, Trapper Mine and Cozy Homes supported the team.
