Students offered unique opportunity to learn

To the Editor:

The Moffat County School District would like to thank the Craig Daily Press, High Country Sports, The Museum of Northwest Colorado, City Market, the Craig Chamber of Commerce and Wapiti Valley Taxidermy for the incredible learning experience they extended to the district's young writers this year.

The enthusiasm and expertise of personnel from these organizations helped our students develop both an awareness of various Yampa Valley resources and the ability to record their observations and understandings with clarity and insight. Our Young Writers project was enriched because community businesses and agencies generously gave time and knowledge to our students.

The "Newspapers and Education" supplement to the Daily Press was a wonderful celebration of children and what they can produce when given the opportunity to learn from community members. We especially appreciate the inclusion of the work of a large and diverse group of youngsters - you even featured their creativity in the child-supportive advertisements that were included! Thanks also to the many advertisers for the positive things they had to say about families, students and education.

We are grateful to all of you for making a significant contribution to the literacy of first-through sixth-grade students. We hope you will be our partners again. Students can learn so much from community experts like you.

Sincerely,
Janet Bohart
Director of Staff Development and Cirriculum
